Wondering what to do if your theme installation fails? If your demo content fails to install, don’t worry- there are several steps you can take to troubleshoot. Try one of these three most common solutions:
- First, simply try to run the theme import again. Your server may have timed out, or it could have been a glitch. Go to Kadence > Starter Templates, select your Code+Confetti Theme & ensure “Delete previously imported content” is checked. Otherwise, you will end up with duplicate pages.
- The next solution is to disable all active plugins on your site except those relating to Kadence. Then try running the theme import again. After you get the theme & demo content installed, you can reactivate the other plugins.
- Finally, if the previous two solutions fail, contact your hosting provider. Ask them to “increase your memory limit to 512KB” and then try to run the import again.
*A Note on hosting providers
If you are encountering time-outs during the install, it *could* be a red flag that your host has overloaded, slow servers. I always recommend using the best hosting provider you can afford! A reliable and affordable option that I have personally used for years is Siteground.
**A Note on Bluehost
The demo content failing to install is a notorious problem for those using Bluehost as their hosting provider.
Here is an additional troubleshooting step I recommend taking if the other steps did not work for you.
Disable Cloudflare CDN
- In your Bluehost account, go to Websites. Select Settings for the website you want to disable Cloudflare on.
- Select the Speed tab.
- Scroll down and click Remove Cloudflare. An alert box will appear, click Confirm. This will disable your CDN. It may take an hour or more for this process to fully take effect.
- *Don’t worry about removing Cloudflare, you can add it back later!
- After an hour has passed, try importing the child theme demo content again.
- Once the content is imported, you can go back to Bluehost > Websites > Settings > Speed and click on Add Cloudflare to re-enable your CDN.
