*Before you begin... If your domain name is not registered with Siteground, you will need to follow the steps in this tutorial to point your domain to the hosting provider via DNS records.

Step 1: Navigate to your website dashboard in Siteground

  1. Login to your Siteground account

  2. Choose Websites from the top menu

  3. Locate the domain you want to install WordPress on (you may only have one), and click the Site Tools button.

  4. This will open your website dashboard

Step 2: Install and Manage WordPress

  1. Click on Install and Manage WordPress

  2. Under Install New WordPress, choose to install either WordPress or WordPress + Woocommerce.

    1. Woocommerce is an e-commerce plugin for WordPress, so only select this option if you plan to use Woocommerce to sell products through your website.

  3. Once you've made a selection, more sections will appear on the screen.

Application Setup:

  • Domain: Select the domain name you wish to install WordPress on. Click the dropdown to view the list of available domain names, including subdomains.

  • Language: This will default to English (United States), or choose your preferred language from the dropdown menu.

  • Installation Path: Most will choose the default option Main Folder. (Subfolder can be used by those wanting to create another website within their domain name, but if you were that advanced you wouldn't be reading this tutorial.)

Admin Info:

  • Username: Choose a username to login to your WordPress website. For security purposes, avoid using the standard "admin," and use a unique name instead.

  • Password: Create a secure password or have Siteground generate one for you. Record the password somewhere so you don't forget it! However, if you do lose your password, you can login to the backend of your WordPress website through Siteground.

  • Email: Use the email address you would like associated with your new WordPress website. Updates about the site will be sent to this email.

  • Install with WordPress Starter Checkbox: There is no right or wrong here, just choose whichever option makes the most sense for you.

    • If Checked: If you check this box, the WordPress Starter will run you through a series of steps prompting you to install themes and popular plugins on your website. A theme is what gives your website it's design. Plugins are used to add additional functionality to your website, such as a chat feature.

    • If Unchecked: WordPress will be installed on your website with the current default WordPress theme. No plugins will be added. I recommend choosing this option if you're familiar with WordPress, or if you've already purchased a theme separately and will be following the theme author's installation guide to set up your website.

3. Press Install

After installation is complete, you'll get a success message. From here, select one of two options:

  1. Admin Panel: This button will automatically log you in to the backend of your new WordPress site (you won't need your username or password), where you'll see the WordPress dashboard.

If you selected WordPress Starter in the previous step, it will launch automatically when you login. The starter will walk you through choosing a theme and popular plugins to install on your website.

  2. View Site: this will take you to the front end of your WordPress site. Without any content, it won't look like much, especially if you're using the standard WordPress theme.

4. Customize Your Website

Congratulations on installing a fresh WordPress website with Siteground! It really wasn't too hard, was it?

The next step is to make your website look like... well, a website. To do this, you'll need to choose a theme and start customizing it. You'll also need to start adding content.
